A surprising combination of fruity sour cherries and lovage (lavas in Dutch). Oud Beersel developed Lavas Kriek together with ONE TWO, a brewery in Timi?oara, Romania. In Romania, lovage is called leu?tean and is added fresh to ciorb?, the traditional sour soup. The leaves came from the gardens of friends of ONE TWO. In Beersel, we steeped them for 10 days in our Kriekenlambiek, made with 330 g of sour cherries per litre. Lovage, known in Flanders as the Maggi plant, gives the Kriekenlambiek a herbal, slightly savoury note reminiscent of celery and fresh herbs. The result is a complex, refreshing beer in which fruity acidity and herbal aromas come together. Refermented in the bottle, the beer develops a natural sparkle.
